Born and raised in Russia, Nika Belianina began professional life in TV Journalism in her native Moscow. Upon arriving in Toronto in late 2003, she decided to continue her studies despite earning a Masters degree in Psychology back home. But this go round, Nika (short name from Veronika) dove into film production at Toronto Film Works.

After completing her studies she began an indie life in the lighting department. She is now a proud member of local NABET 700 CEP. There she’s been working on numerous TV shows, features and MOWs. Although still a juicer by trade, she co-wrote/directed her first short film “The Doom of the Orb Master” (2005) for which she and her co-conspirators won Best Film honors at the First Take International Student Film Festival here in Toronto (2005).

Crazy Lovin’ (2007) is her solo directing debut. In 2008 Nika discovered for herself puppet animation and executed two short films about ugly dolls – “Watching the Sun” and “1 wish”. Her next adventure was another drama “Jenny”, which she shot on Red camera and completed in November 2008. Her films played at various film festivals and gained her few awards, including Cinematic Excellence and another Best Film honors.

Photography has been her passion all along, and she finally got a chance to display her work at the “Off camera” art exhibition in Toronto in October of 2008. There she sold 60% of her works on the opening night. That gained her a spot at another group show in Toronto and a signed contract with art gallery Gabrichidze in Brussels (Belgium) for 2 other shows in early 2009. Her work is also successfully sold in private businesses. She is fascinated with the beauties of the world. Through her work she hopes to convey the hidden magic of the surroundings and to evoke the thirst to dream and question. She is constantly looking for new ways to express her artistic voice.
